Terminus – UART Based Testbench Generator

Category:

Description

What Is Terminus

Terminus is a specialized Digital Function Generator. It has 12 different tools to generate a wide variety of digital signals. All signals and signal parameters are user defined. The signals are all digital in nature. All signals (both Input & Output) conforms to 5v TTL standard.

Who Is Terminus For

The list can start from Engineering Students, Researchers, Teachers, Hobbyists to Engineering Professionals and beyond. Terminus can be a suitable tool for a large number of people with different requirements. Terminus is a mere tool like a hammer or a screwdriver. What someone can do with it is dependent on the user themselves. Imagination is the limit.

What Digital Tools Are Included

– Oscillator
– Pattern Generator
– Manual Byte Generator
– Random Byte Generator
– Finite Pulse Generator
– Morse Code Generator
– Frequency Sweep Generator

The above list is for the current version. We are continuing our R&D to add more features and tools in the next version.

More Details

Terminus is a standalone digital equipment that can generate a large numbers of digital test signals for system design, research & development and educational purposes. Terminus features 12 different digital signal generation tools. All the signals and related parameters are user defined. The user can control and configure the Terminus along with all the signal generators and the tools via a PC running a terminal emulator software. The Terminus has been tested with both TeraTerm and PuTTY. Both of these software are open source and is provided free of cost.

Terminus was designed with engineering students in mind. A vast majority of these signals can only be generated with expensive equipment and are used in high end electronics laboratories. Terminus combines a large number of essential digital signal generation functionality in a single package with reduced capability than its expensive counterpart. As capability is reduced, students & university don’t need to spend a large sum of money. Furthermore, expensive tools are not suited at the hands of entry level students. With Terminus, the university will not need to worry about the students breaking/damaging the expensive equipment. Along with Logical Reality, the university can have access to complete academic suite for teaching digital electronics and embedded system. The entire package costs significantly less than individual equipment combined.

Terminus can be connected to any computer that has a Serial Port or to a USB port via USB-RS232 bridge. The user can use any USB-RS232 chipset they want. The commands are sent and received using a Terminal Program. We have tested TeraTerm and PuTTY and found them to be the best match for Terminus.

Small physical footprint, simple build and extremely optimized firmware makes Terminus a very capable while being cheap and affordable for students. Terminus is suitable for students, Engineers, makers and hobbyists.
